Fri-YAY!!!!!

Oh, TGIF y'all!!!! I am so ready for this weekend. I am going to start packing for our trip at some point on Saturday and I hope the weather is nicer than it has been so we can get outside and get some much needed Vitamin D! I will also finally bite the bullet and go clothes shopping on Sunday for the trip.

These are a few of my favorite things from the week.

ONE.

Who watched the season finale? OMG!!! Those are the only 3 letters I can come up with to describe my reaction. I was completely thrown for a loop, floored, blown away! I did not see that plot twist coming and now I can't wait until the next season starts. If you haven't watched this show, go back to episode 1 and start there otherwise you will be lost. D hasn't followed the show but wanted to watch the finale with me last night and he kept asking question after question. Thankfully I was watching it on the DVR so I could pause it to answer his questions. I was so glad when he finally fell asleep in his recliner.

TWO.

Drew bought me these boots for Christmas and I just love them! Today is Go Texan Day in Houston to kick off the trail riders coming into town for the start of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. It is the best time in Houston! All the kids at school are dressed in their western wear and people all over town are wearing their best rodeo gear. We are not able to go to the cook-off this year but we will definitely be attending a couple of the shows and watching some good 'ol bull riding!

THREE.
Going to the gym consistently is hard. Even if you can manage to lose some weight then you stumble onto some pizza and gain it all back again. if only fat was like your virginity and once you lost it, it's gone forever. Then you could get away with being lazy. I Wish Fat Was Like Virginity
This shirt made me laugh. Don't you wish it was that easy?!?! I tried on some of my pre-pregnancy shorts last night and I was able to fit into 2 pairs of them. Don't you think its funny how you can have 2 of the exact same style of something and 1 fits and 1 doesn't. I have these shorts from Loft, same size, same style, just different color. I was trying them on last night and the blue ones fit but the black ones were too tight. Hmmm... I don't get it.

FOUR.

This is the best and easiest turkey chili recipe I have found. I usually cook it in the crock pot but this week I cooked it on the stove because I didn't have time that morning to get it all together. It still turned out good on the stove, but it is better in the crock pot.

FIVE.

The talk of the town... this dress. Is it Blue & Black or White & Gold? Right now while I'm looking at it I see a white & gold dress. Last night when I looked at it the first time, I saw blue & black. Does that make me special? Like only the most advanced people can see it both ways?

What color do you see?

Well, happy Friday y'all!!! Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Thoughts for Thursday- Judging Mothers

Thoughts for Thursday

We've almost made it to the weekend y'all! This weekend it is the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo cook-off! It is one of my most favorite times of all the year and....womp womp... I don't get to go to the cook-off this year. Hopefully we will be able to catch a performance or two though at the actual rodeo.

I wasn't really sure what I was going to write about today but then I read this.  Since becoming a mother I am actually shocked to see how much judging goes on in the mommy world.

Now, I really try not to get sucked into all of this and I definitely try not to be a judgey mom to other moms. You see, as a mother of 2 young children I am just trying to survive the day to day. I do have a husband and a full time job to juggle also.  The last thing I have time to do is worry about if another mother is breast feeding or formula feeding their baby or growing a vegetable garden out back so they can make home made organic baby food once their child switches from formula to food.

Currently I am struggling with a big mom decision on whether to continue working or to become a SAHM. D and I have been talking about this since I went back to work in January after maternity leave. Paying for 2 kids in daycare kills us! I digress.

Back to the subject at hand... judgey moms. The point being... STOP DOING IT!!!! Your parenting is no better than the other mom at the park that is doing the best she can. When we are in a store and Abby sees other kids crying or doing something bad she always likes to point it out. Frankly, it is embarrassing and I always make sure to tell her that she only needs to worry about what she is doing. That is too much for her mind to understand at this point but you see where I'm going. Let's focus on ourselves and our own children, let's pour the best of what we have to offer this world into them, let's love other mom's because we know how hard some days can be and how great others can be. Let's focus on the good! Organic food, staying at home vs. working, cloth vs. regular diapers....c'mon people are those even issues for us to be passing judgement on?

Can we all take a vow to do what is best for you and for your family and to respect that what you do may not work for everyone? I don't have time to make home made baby food and even if I was a SAHM I don't think I would want to make time to do that. It's not my thing... and you know what, that's perfectly ok with me!

Happy Thursday y'all!!

Pretend Packing

We are getting so close to our Disney trip and I have absolutely nothing to pack! I know a lot of times I walk into my closet and will say I have nothing to wear when I actually just don't have anything I WANT to wear. This is different y'all... very different!! I am almost 4 months post baby but definitely not back to my pre-pregnancy weight. Some of my clothes fit but not really any of my spring clothes or if they do fit, they don't fit correctly. I really don't want to look back at all the pictures we will be taking and see myself in ill-fitting clothes or looking like I stuffed myself into them. That would definitely be a good memory killer.

I keep putting off going shopping because I have been hoping I could drop a few more pounds. In all reality though, even if I lose 2 lbs between now and when we leave in 8 days it probably won't have much effect on the way my clothes fit. So, I'm going to bite the bullet and go shopping this weekend. I plan to focus on buying clothes that will make me feel comfortable as I am running around Disney World with a 3 year old and a tiny baby but also clothes that will hide the areas of my body that I am uncomfortable with. I'm thinking tunics, flow-y shirts, longer shorts (not that I am a short short wearer normally) and capris or cropped pants.

Of course like anyone I started inspiration shopping on Pinterest. Here are a few of the outfits that strike my fancy.

I guess I will probably need a swim suit too. :( I'm thinking one like this... a swim dress!!!

If only shopping was as easy as scrolling through pinterest and pinning to your dream boards, right?!

What are your go to stores for spring shopping?

Weekend Scenes

Happy Monday y'all. It is a cold one here in Texas but unfortunately it wasn't cold enough to give Houston an ice day. Damnit!

The weekend turned out really nice even though the forecast called for rain. We cancelled our family pictures on Sunday because the chance of rain was so high and then it didn't even rain. On the bright side, it will give me a little extra time to get a little more weight off before that camera adds 10 lbs. Right?!

Saturday Abby and I got our hair cut. I also had to get my roots done. Typically a hair appointment for me will last 1 1/2- 2 hours and normally my mom watches the kids for me while I'm there. This weekend she was doing a garage sale so the kids got to go to the salon with me. Let me tell you what the least relaxing thing ever is..... 3 kids with you at a salon. I guess I should be more specific... 1 of those 3 kids being a curious toddler. Abby did great though when it was time to get her hair cut.

I'm biased obviously, but soooo cute!!!!!

After we left the salon and grabbed some lunch we went to Justice for Kylie to spend some gift cards and Christmas/Birthday cash that was burning a hole in her pocket. Abby cried throughout the entire shopping experience. It was fantastic and so relaxing. I'm sure all the other Mom's who love shopping at Justice just as much as I do (insert sarcasm) really enjoyed hearing a crying toddler the whole time. After shopping we did get to play outside some which was nice.

Abby got that Frozen jeep power wheel for Christmas and LOVE LOVE LOVES it! It actually plays frozen music. Kylie was rocking the rip stick. Have you ever tried to ride one of those? Um.... it's pretty much impossible. And.. Jax he is just too cool with his Mickey sunglasses.

Sunday was my little brother's birthday so we went out to my dad's house for a crawfish boil. I had the intentions of taking a ton of pictures but..... i only took 3. So here you have them folks.... They also had a cake and presents for Abby to celebrate her upcoming birthday.
Cute, cute, and more cute!!!
Jaxon loves his frog chair. I like it more than the Bumbo because he actually looks comfortable sitting in it. I don't feel like babies ever look comfortable sitting in a bumbo.

By the time we got home on Sunday night both kids were crashed out. Abby didn't even wake up when I changed her into "jammas". There was no Oscar watching for me last night. Once the kids were settled and I washed all the bottles I only had enough energy to drink 1 glass of wine and barely enough energy to shower.

It was a nice weekend! Now if you could all join together with me and let's pray for a Houston ice day tomorrow!!!!

Happy Monday y'all!

Five on Friday- a little bit of this, a little bit of that

TGIF!!!! This week has felt so long and so busy. I did have a nice break yesterday though because I was able to get off work early and my mom picked up my kids from daycare. I took full advantage of the beautiful afternoon and squeezed in an almost 3 mile run/walk around my neighborhood, took some clothes that Abby and Jax have out grown to the consignment shop, and grabbed some Starbucks. It has been a long time since I had an afternoon off like that where I just did what I wanted and didn't feel pressured to use my downtime to clean the house or cook dinner.

Here are a few things on my mind for 5 on Friday....

One. Saturday I have a hair appointment. The last few times I have just got my roots done and held off on getting it cut because I wanted to let it grow out. I still want to keep the length but I think this time I will have her do a little cutting. I'm thinking something like this.
Love this long bob...I will need layers like this in mine too.or

I don't really want to take much length off but right now it just looks so boring. My hair is so straight and I'm handicapped in the knowing how to curl my hair department so I have to go with a cut that looks good straight.

Two. I participated in SkinnyMeg's diet bet that ended on Tuesday. I needed to lose 9 lbs. I did not reach my goal and therefore did not win any money. Boo! I did however lose 8 lbs according to my scale at home so it wasn't a complete loss. I will definitely participate in a diet bet again.

Three. Do any of you read the MommyShorts blog? I love it! She is so real about her parenting and puts a humorous spin on it. The other day she posted up this article about 7 reasons why your wife is stressed out all the time. Y'all it is so accurate! I immediately emailed it to Drew so he could understand better. I suggest you read it and send it to your man too. Also, it will help you to feel more normal.

Four. We are taking family pictures on Sunday. I am so excited to have a picture of all 5 of us to hang on the wall. The last family picture we took was December of 2012. I think we're due! Picking out a color scheme is overwhelming though. Last Sunday D and I went shopping at Dillard's because we had a gift card to spend. I found the cutest dress from Abby and just knew she had to be photographed in it. Mine, D's, Jax, and Kylie's outfits were tailored around her dress. We are going with the navy and white theme.
Abby / Jaxon / Kylie / Me / Drew

Five. Have you ever watched How to Get Away With Murder? Y'all that show is amazing! My MIL told me about it and I started watching it while I was on maternity leave. I started watching it late but thanks to OnDemand I was able to catch up on missed episodes and it made the middle of the night feedings not so bad. Now I am hooked and each week it just gets better and better. So take my advice and watch it!

Happy Friday y'all!!!

Tasty Tuesday- A low carb donut recipe

When D and I got married I registered for one of those baby donut makers. I love donuts and thought it would be fun to be able to make mini donuts for Abby.

Since I am working to lose this baby weight and D is supposed to be following a low carb, high protein, high fat diet we don't really eat donuts anymore... or at least I don't. I have a feeling that D might get himself some whenever he occasionally takes Abby to get donuts before school. Anyway, I was on pinterest the other day and stumbled across this picture. What's that you say, a low carb donut?!? It's worth a shot right? So Sunday morning I got up and broke out the baby donut maker.

This is the recipe I followed. I had to make 2 substitutions. The batter recipe calls for erythritol, but I couldn't find any at my HEB so I used a no calorie sweetener that I already had on hand. I will be ordering some erythritol and trying the recipe again later because I'm not sure the substitution did the recipe justice. I also didn't have the low carb cacoa chocolate for the icing so I used a Baker's semi-sweet baking chocolate bar. *This increased the carbs in my recipe

You first mix all the wet ingredients together and the dry ingredients together in separate bowls.
who can bake without an assistant to help stir. not pictured, Abby's face
Before you mix the two bowls together, make sure your donut maker is turned on and ready to go. The recipe says that you have to immediately make the donuts once you mix the two because if not the dough gets too dry. Seriously, do not wait. The mix makes 2 batches or 12 donuts. The donut maker has 6 spaces and by the time I got the first batch off and was ready to put the second batch in the dough was already starting to get dry. You have to be quick. I cooked them for 4 minutes.

While the donuts were cooling some I made the chocolate topping. I must note that mine does not look at all like the original picture. Maybe it was the substitution, maybe I burned it a little; I'm really not sure what happened actually. Before I post the final product I must place a disclaimer that 1. I am not a professional photographer. I'm actually not even an aspiring photographer and 2. Besides making simple dinners in the kitchen and baking cookies or brownies, I am a total rookie cook. Ok, here it is, my low carb donuts.
thankfully they tasted better than they looked

They aren't pretty but they didn't taste terrible. I do want to remake them with all the correct ingredients though to see if they turn out better. Drew and Abby didn't like them, they prefer the real deal. Who am I kidding, I also prefer the real deal but this would be a good substitute if I just had to have a donut and didn't want to blow my whole day of macros on a real donut.

I put the recipe into MFP and this is what it calculated.

Serving size- 1 donut
calories: 180
Fat: 15g
Carbs: 6.9
Protein: 3.1

I'd love to hear how yours turns out if you try the recipe!

Happy Tuesday y'all  !!

Valentine's Day Weekend

Its monday but its ok ! | #Coffee

The weekends just go by way too fast! Our valentine's day weekend was pretty busy with just normal weekend stuff. D works all day on Saturdays everyday, so it was just me and the kids.

Friday night was my highlight because I got to get out for a late night girls night. Once D got home I darted out the door to meet some friends for a couple of drinks and then we went to see 50 Shades of Grey!!! I loved the books and the movie did not disappoint.

On Saturday we got out of the house to run some errands, at some lunch at Fuddruckers and went to a gymnastics birthday party. I love watching Abby interact with other children. She will just jump right in and play with anyone who will play with her. I love that she has that confidence. She had such a great time at the party. I think that once she turns 3 I will get her involved in some gymnastics or dance.

D & I did get to spend some quite time alone once he got home from work. The kids were already in bed so we had a late night dinner and finally opened the Dom Perignon that has been in our fridge for over 2 years. It was pretty good I must say!

Sunday is Drew's day off and it's always nice to get to spend the whole day with him. We spent most of our day at the mall trying to get coordinating outfits for our family pictures next weekend. Picking out color schemes and deciding on outfits was so daunting to me. It just felt like such big decisions since we'll be getting a big print of the picture to hang on the wall. I wanted to make sure I was making the right choices. I can't wait to see how they will come out!

One thing I did realize yesterday was that if I plan on blogging, I better get a whole lot better at snapping pictures. I took 2 this morning.

Ipsy Glam Bag

My Ipsy glam bag came this weekend! It's one of my favorite days in the month. I'm pretty low maintenance in the beauty department and will rarely spend money on new products so this is a great way for me to try new things. I love the eye liner! It's purple but not bright purple. It's subtle and it will probably be my daily go to eye liner for a while.

Five on Friday

Friday For more fun stuff, go to www.motherearthproducts.com.

Happy Friday y'all! Jaxon woke up at 3:30am this morning and I could not fall back asleep after he drank his bottle. I struggled really hard with the decision to get back in bed and keep trying to fall asleep or stay up and get myself to boot camp. I knew I would regret it if I didn't go so I just put on my workout clothes and went. I don't regret it!

Here's what's on my mind today...

One:

We normally have a lady that comes every two weeks to clean the house but while I was on maternity leave I felt guilty having her come. 1. because I wasn't getting a full paycheck and 2. duh, I was home I should be doing the cleaning. Well now I have been back to work for a little over a month and I just cannot keep up. I tried making a cleaning schedule but it isn't happening. By the time I get home, cook dinner, bathe kids, put kids to bed, etc.. I would end up cleaning at 9pm. Finally D told me that if I didn't get the lady to come back he was going to find someone to come because he was tired of me feeling overwhelmed trying to keep up with it all. For that I am thankful! She is coming back to clean today so that means my weekend will begin with a clean house!!

Two:

I will be seeing this tonight at 11pm! I loved the books and I have heard good things from other people who have already seen it. Also, I need some girl time so I'm excited to get out of the house for a couple of hours with some girlfriends!

Three:

We have a bottle of this in our fridge that we received as a Christmas gift 2 years ago at D's work Christmas party! We have been waiting and waiting for an occasion to drink it so we're going to pop the top tomorrow and feel fancy sitting on our couch watching Alaskan Bush People. If you haven't watched that show... you should!

Four:

Jax made this for me at daycare! I love it!!!! I need to figure out a filing or storing system for things like this that the kids make. Any suggestions?

Thoughts for Thursday- Jaxon's Nursery Tour

Thoughts for Thursday

When I think of all the rooms in my house, Jax's room is the one I am most proud of. From the moment we found out we were having a boy, I knew his room would be baseball themed. D loves baseball and wants so badly to pass that passion on to his son.

This room makes me so proud because I had a vision and actually made it happen. I did not have to purchase very many items for this room; because we had so many baby things left over from Abby a lot of the gifts we received were to help decorate his room.

The vision started with these 2 autographed photos that D already had and treasured.
authentic Mickey Mantle & Willie Mays autographed pictures

I'm almost positive the only reason D wanted to have a boy was so he would have some place to hang these pictures. Because the theme was baseball I wanted to go with the red, white, and blue color scheme. I had the idea that it would be cool to have a wall of baseballs and so with a little pinterest searching I found inspiration here.

My baseball wall
** I never realized how crooked the letters on the wall were until I was taking these pictures. Oops!
I splurged a bit on his bedding since I didn't have to buy furniture, as we were able to use Abby's old furniture but then I had the hardest time trying to find a mobile to match. The only one I found was on Etsy for $90 but I refused to spend that much on a mobile so I asked my mom if she could make me one using Abby's old mobile. This was her creation, made with all the love!

Here is the room from all sides.  I love that it will be easily transitioned from a nursery into a big boy room eventually.

If you want to paint a baseball wall, I'd be happy to give you some tips. It was so easy, I can't believe I actually considered paying someone to do it at first.

Happy Thursday y'all!!

NSV!!!!

Happy hump day and welcome to my random Wednesday post! Today I want to talk about a NSV, also known as a non-scale victory. This morning I put on one of my size 14 pre-pregnancy pants and... THEY FIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!   Nothing can bring me down today!

@kingkm02 weight loss, non-scale victories, healthy eating, weight loss motivation

When you decide to lose weight, DON'T QUIT. You can do this. This is your year! http://www.onesteptoweightloss.com/workout-routines-for-women @homeweightloss

I'm so motivated today! I just might get into those shorts in the corner of my closet by Disney after all!

On a completely non-fitness related note, Abby hit a milestone yesterday. It's one that I wondered when it would come, but dreaded the day. We took the kids to the Disney store yesterday to pick up a few outfits for our trip next month and Abby must have asked for every single toy in that store. This has never happened before. We can usually go in and out of a store and the only thing she asks for is a snack. She always asks for snacks though, it isn't about what store she is in. Yesterday was different. She touched and tried to pick up all the princesses, plates, cups, stuffed animals and she wanted them all. Thankfully she didn't have any meltdowns over the amount of times I said "no" or "put that down" or  "quit touching things". It was a peaceful parting for her.... for now.

Is 3 the normal age for this milestone? What do you do to keep your children from getting a bad case of the "I wants" ?

Twins?

Last Friday I wrote out what I was going to post about for the entire week in my calendar. Pinterest told me that it was important to do that as a new blogger. Today I was going to be sharing a recipe with y'all but due to a crazy busy weekend I didn't make it to the grocery store to get the ingredients. My plan B was to go yesterday after I picked the kids up from daycare but that didn't happen either. Abby had a meltdown because her teacher asked if she could keep Jax and I picked them up just as Jax was supposed to be getting a bottle. So with 2 crying kids I determined that it was better for my sanity to just go home and share the recipe another day. You understand right?

In lieu of a recipe post I leave you with this comparison picture. Abby is on the left and Jax is on the right. I just cannot get over how much they look alike. Drew doesn't think so, but I say the proof is in the picture collage! What do you think?

Happy Tuesday y'all!!

Motivated Monday

Kelsey @ Random Randts

Oh the dreaded Monday! I actually don't always hate Mondays. Today Monday means we are less than 4 weeks out until our Disney Vacation. So today for Motivated Monday I want to talk about what is motivating me right now and share the only two pictures that we took this weekend.

Drew & I at my step-sister's wedding! Congrats Kelsi & Caleb!

High Pony for the win!!

1. My results from January. In January I did the Advocare 24 day challenge. I wouldn't say I stuck to in 100%, but definitely 80%. I was also working out 2x a week. I ended up only losing 3.9lbs. but I lost 5% body fat!! The few pairs of clothes I can actually fit into started fitting a little looser. So it made me extra motivated to keep it up the good habits to get back into all my "normal" clothes.

2. Boot camp. In Jan. I started working out with a personal trainer. I would work out with her 2x a week for 30 minutes. The work outs were hard but I didn't quite see the results that I wanted. My trainer also does a boot camp on MWF for 1 hour each session. Not only is this better because it is more workout time, it is also WAY cheaper! Starting Feb. 2nd I switched from personal training to the boot camp. My trainer is awesome! My main motivation though besides losing weight is to not be the most unfit person there. The ladies in the boot camp are older than me, I'd say by at least 10 years or so... If they can do it, so can I!!!!!

3. My Fitness Pal. I have started tracking all my food in MFP, except for on the weekends I have a hard time keeping up with it because I'm too busy keeping up with kids. It has helped me so much to use this app. A lot of the time I will have my meals planned out for the day and put it all in that morning so I can see exactly what my nutrition looks like for the day. I use MFP along with the IIFYM app. It really motivates me to see at the end of the day when you click COMPLETE THIS ENTRY and it tells you... If every day is like today in 5 weeks you will weigh...... I know that those results are probably not accurate but it helps me stay motivated.

4. Our Disney Trip. This one should probably be #1 on the list. The thing is, I currently have 0 pairs of shorts that fit and the thought of going out to buy shorts larger than the size I want to be makes me sad. I think that if I commit to my workouts and maybe try to squeeze in an extra one or 2 during the week, stick to eating right, and keep a positive attitude about the whole get my body back process I MAY be able to fit into my shorts by the time the trip rolls around.

Abby & I at Disney in 2013

5. Skinny Meg's Diet Bet. I need to lose 4 more lbs. to win some money. I mean who isn't motivated by money right?!? The pot is at $4600 and I want a piece of that pie!

What's motivating you?? Go over to Kelsey's page to link up and share your motivation!

Happy Monday y'all!
