Finding an RV

This has been the most fun to me. Just like I love looking at houses, I have loved being able to go in and see all the different RVs. Although we cannot purchase one until our house sells, we have begun narrowing down our choices. It is a good thing we started early because you have to make lots of decisions. While we understand that there is no perfect RV out there, we have had to work through our fantasy and get to the reality of what is really important and what we can do without. So here are the important things...

Weight- all of the trailers that check all our boxes are too heavy so we've adjusted. Drew drives an XD Diesel Titan with a towing capacity of about 12,500 lbs. This means we are looking for an RV that weighs 10,000 lbs unloaded or less. Because we are new to the RV world we are really even looking for  a little bit lighter around 8500-9000lbs and of course because we are staying in it full time there will be more stuff in it than if we just had enough stuff for a weekend getaway.

New or Used- In my mind I really wanted to buy an inexpensive used trailer and remodel it to be exactly how we wanted. I have spent countless hours browsing used RVs online at places like rvt.com or rvtrader.com and I have found many that I liked. Last weekend we went and looked at one of these used trailers we found on line. BAM! Reality smacked us right in the face and so did the horrific smell coming out of that thing. Now, I know that a smell can be fixed but that was just the tip of the iceberg on this thing. We quickly realized that since we are using the proceeds from the sale of our home to purchase the RV we really need something that is more move in ready. Our search has now shifted to new RVs.
Isn't this renovated kitchen dreamy!

Layout- The one thing that is most important to us is that the kids have a bunkhouse room. That means there is a door separating them from the living area. This is important so that we don't all have to go to bed at 8:30 every night and it also gives us a little more space for toy storage. Counter space in the kitchen was also important to me. None of them have a lot of counter space but I need somewhere to set the Kurig, obviously!
Look at all that space!

Initially we weren't looking at anything except Fifth Wheel trailers but we were having a hard time finding one that met our requirements in a reasonable price range for us so we switched focus and started looking at travel trailers. This is the trailer we have our sights set on right now. It checks most of the boxes and as a bonus it even has a hook up for a washer/dryer!! That might come in handy, although it wasn't a must have for us.

Have we gone crazy?

Maybe so, but here we go!!

Hi, I'm Christina and welcome to our adventure! Today we will be officially putting our home on the market. Our dream home, the one we have lived in for only 2 years.

We are selling our home to...dun dun dun....move into a travel trailer. Yes, you read that right, a travel trailer. A fifth wheel is what we are considering, to be more specific. We are going to live there with our 2 small children and 4 dogs! Living in an RV has always been a secret dream of mine, although I really pictured myself doing it before I had a family. It has actually never been a dream of Drew's. :) But, he lives by the mantra "Happy Wife, Happy Life"! Lucky me!

I struggle to find the words that properly explain why we  would do such a crazy thing but this encouragement card explains it perfectly for me!

We're taking this adventure one day at a time so there really isn't much planned past this but I hope you'll stay tuned!
